asked to develop a new graphic identity for katz architecture in a rush before their office move, we declined. instead we suggested to design stickers to retro-fit the old collateral with the new address and used the project to get to know katz better before laying hands on the identity: the more we know, the more appropriate your logo.
-
stickers to update the address on existing collateral… -
…are also a mailer to announce the move -
train as canvas, decked out with stickers -
we found the basic logo design in one of the stickers. henceforth: the new katz stationery -
holiday greetings from katz… and us.
we are moving: stick with us
first considered a band-aid, the sticker idea expanded:
it turned from a simple stationery fix into a mailer to announce the company’s move and was ultimately sent to everyone in david katz’s huge address book.
a closer look: after demolishing (or “peeling off” in laymen’s terms) the seats on the train, you can go to work and deck it out in style. parts supplied from the different tool-chests of the architecture firm.
tread lightly
we wanted to treat the existing design with respect and transition to a new look without loosing the connection; katz’s blue and franklin gothic made it to the next round. another prerogative: stay clear from the obvious roof, t-square, or i-beam symbols. in the end we found the logo on the train: ka, as in “katz architecture”. the k and a live in flatland but where they connect, they create the spatial illusion of another dimension. a special place.
outcome
florian: “how does it look?”
david katz: “superb! beautiful work!”
the client was happy and received many compliments.
we spotted a bear skin rug sticker in the wild, that is to say: on the F train, while riding to work.
